When Your Passion Becomes A Dream: Annie Park’s Journey to White Collar Boxing

25 year-old Annie Park has been part of The Ring Boxing Community since 2016, and recently took her passion in boxing a step further by taking part in our first ever White Collar Boxing event last June.

ALWAYS THOUGHT BOXING WAS A BEAUTIFUL SPORT

Boxing has helped me calm down whenever I’m feeling stressed, and taught me to become more mindful of myself and my surroundings. At the end of the day, even though it’s just you in the ring, it’s also a team sport where you feel so much love and encouragement from the bonding the sport naturally yields. The coaches, your team, and just about any pleasant face you encounter during training – that’s what completes the experience and growth with boxing.

IT WAS THE PERFECT WAY TO TEST MY PROGRESS IN THE SPORT WITHOUT IMMENSE PRESSURE

I have the tenacity towards naturally taking part in events if it involves my hobby or passion. Boxing, tick. Socializing, tick. Wine and Whiskey, tick and tick. The Ring’s White Collar Boxing was a perfect way to test my progress in a sport I really enjoyed. The fact that it was a superbly entertaining event combined with my interest in challenging myself in the sport – great reason, great timing.

SOME HIGHLIGHTS OF MY TRAINING JOURNEY:

  • Knowing that you’re a part of something endlessly exciting, and being able to look forward to it while witnessing your weekly progress with your team and coaches. When you have something that aids your growth to look forward to, it naturally pushes your mindset towards a more ambitious and positive one on a daily basis.

  • How it taught me discipline and that if you love it enough, it really isn’t that bad!

  • I ran a marathon in 2013 and completely stopped running regularly after that. The training camp helped me get back to running and made me realise the importance of cardiovascular strength and consistency.

IT'S NOT ABOUT WINNING OR LOSING

White Collar Boxing is like a beautiful gateway that bridges you into the competitive world of boxing, if you are not looking to become professional, but still have an immense passion and love for the sport to just keep it within padwork and bag training. You are able to enjoy the sport by challenging yourself while getting to hang out with some amazing souls that you wouldn’t have gotten to know otherwise. I think the first step into the ring will feel different for everyone – for me, it was extremely nerve-wrecking, but I knew I had to do it because of the my respect for the sport. If you like it enough, you won’t be disappointed. You’ll come out of each ring experience with new knowledge, feeling empowered. It’s not all about winning or losing, but about knowing that you deserve to feel confident and excited about something you’re passionate about.
